Developments in our Indoor & Outdoor Environments

Govan After-school Club

At the Govan after-school club, we’re excited to share the wonderful ideas our staff and children have developed together in our recent project to reimagine the after-school experience.

From revamping the indoor spaces to breathing new life into outdoor areas, there’s been a lot of creativity at work!

Some of the children and staff have focused on enhancing our wall displays, creating vibrant, inspiring spaces. Others have explored new resources to make activities even more engaging.

A fantastic new idea includes a self-registration system where children can choose how they’d like to spend their time—whether heading straight outdoors, staying inside for activities, or simply relaxing in our reading and technology corner.

We also spent some time collecting ideas from the children on what they’d like to see on the menu, and moving towards a more flexible, inclusive snack time with the children more involved in preparation.

The blend of fresh ideas and input from everyone involved is helping to shape a space that feels welcoming, exciting, and tailored to the children’s interests.

We’re looking forward to implementing these great ideas and watching our after-school club become an even more vibrant and creative environment!

Stay tuned for more updates!

Glendale After-school Club

Having reviewed our snack provisions prior to the summer holidays, since starting back in August, we felt it was a great opportunity to undertake a full review of our indoor and outdoor resources at Glendale after-school club.

This is with the aim of further developing the playspace to offer opportunities for relaxation, to increase the range of activities that offer a broader range of benefits to development and wellbeing, and in general are just fun!

When developing our spaces, we place a lot of importance on gathering feedback from the children.

We asked them about the resources that we had already, and then what we could add to our collection. With the winter months approaching, there was a clear focus on indoor provisions from the children.

Some comments from the children:

“Can we have some paint?

More board games!!

“Can we have more crates for outside?

After we’d gathered as many of their ideas as we could, we then looked at expanding our play-space and adding in the new resources.

We now have a much larger collection of games (including a pool table which has been a fan favourite!).

We have also introduced a tuff tray, which offers endless opportunities for sensory and messy play, and have revamped our arts and craft materials to include many more options.

The children have reacted really well to and engaged with the new resources. Here are some of the things they said about them…
